Started to fiddle around with gnomemeeting to test another IPv6 application. Unfortunately, this involved a new kernel compilation (which you should not do at 4 am in the morning after a gcc update because it will likely break other things). Anyway, it runs fine now on my LAN/WLAN here. I am even able to get a tv channel transmitted over the connection with decent audio.
I am wondering, why VoIP is not getting more popular, though…

Yes, Gibe is flooding my pop account now. But at least this gives clamav a good test.

I was wondering why I had not received any Gibe.F worms so far.
I’ve just created a new email address and posted a message to the usenet and 20 minutes later I got it.
Amazing… During the good ole days we had to go to a friend, copy some floppies with cracked games and it would take ages for a virus to spread but thanks to the Internet and silly email clients now they find you from whereever in the world within minutes.
Anyway, nothing happened and finally the hours (well more like minutes) I’ve spent with installing clamav have paid off.

First heavy rainstorm, so fall is definitely coming. I know it is odd but we had a long hot summer, so I am looking forward to some weather changes, and heh … you have a valid excuse to sit in front of your computer
Besides that I am preparing for exams. Can’t wait till they are over.

Yarr. Ohh, looks like I am too late. Yesterday was “Talk like a pirate day.”
Anyway, finally figured out how to add IPv6-reverse zones,
so a “host -n 2001:aaaa:bbbb:cccc::1″ returns a valid hostname now. Of course, this is all still work in progress, so you should actually add two reverse zones for your IPv6 subnet, one with the ending .ip6.arpa which will be the official one and one with the ending .ip6.inet because the Microsoft IPv6 stack does not know about the new .ip6.arpa ending, yet.
While we are on the subject: To disable anonymous IPv6 addresses in Windows XP type the following command:
cmd> ipv6 -p gpu UseTemporaryAddresses no
and type the following commands
cmd> net stop tcpip6
cmd> net start tcpip6
or do a complete reboot if the above commands do not work.
You might wonder, why you cannot ping your ipv6 addresses in Windows XP. This is caused by the built-in ipv6 firewall which blocks ICMPv6 packets by default. To change this you have to use the new “netsh firewall” interface.
Type the following command and you should be able to
ping your IPv6 addresses from anywhere:
netsh firewall> set adapter “Local Area Connection” icmp all=enable
and confirm the changes with the command
netsh firewall> show adapter “Local Area Connection”.
For more information about the Windows XP/SP1 IPv6 firewall google for netsh firewall.
