Played with WebDAV, since GMX is offering a 1GB webstore folder - a reaction to googles gmail service. Decided to install webdav for my local apache2 installation. It is important, that you define a correct lockfile location for webdav. If you forget that, you won’t be able to do any file manipulations.

And: The beta 2 version of AICCU was released. This is going to replace the sixxs heartbeat tool - Not a biggie, downloaded the new debian package and it just worked.

Spent the day researching high-availabilty firewalling, which is my nr. 1 choice for a diploma thesis at the moment. Found some good resources on the net. Stumbled over the linux ottawa conference 2004 audio recordings and consequently listened to some of them. Subscribed to the netfilter-ha, linux-ha and openbsd pf mailinglists. Yikes, so more daily email. Retrieved the 2004 archive from netfilter-ha and converted the mbox textiles with a nice perl script called, mb2md.pl to the Maildir format so that I can import the archived emails to my local imap account.

Other than that, Miama definitely rocked, the yacht entrances were cool, the stage looked great but I had the feeling that something was missing - maybe the big “scandale”. One downside: the “everyone go-vote” was sometimes just embarrassing. The intention might have been good but I think it was just not fitting…

I’ve been playing with OTP - one time passwords. I am not quite sure, if I’ll ever use them on a production box, though. A good starting point is the article “one-time passwords” on onlamp.com.
I got it too work rather quickly and even got some basic understanding on how pam works.

This blog was down for some time and I have not written for ages. Well, life moved on as you have guessed. Maybe I’ll write more regularly now.
