Kudos to Alan Ball - probably one of the best series finales, ever. Thanks for 5 great seasons.

Importance of music

As a huge 24 fan, I came across the 24 soundtrack. I have listened to it over 60 times according to audioscrobbler in the past weeks, so I think i like it. The collection of tracks is very well chosen. My favorite tracks are LA at 9am, Jack on the move and Season Three Finale/Jack’s Humanity. It is amazing how music can influence the mood of a scene.

This reminded me of the dvd release of the tv show called Roswell. According to the producers they had to replace lots of the original background music due to licensing issues. Apparently they did not buy the rights to put those featured music tracks on the dvds and they had the option to either buy a license for every track (which would have been quite pricy) or replace the music with other tracks from other artists. Many fans were outraged by this because they had seen episodes over and over again and were so used to the original music and felt that a lot of the atmosphere was just missing.

Thank you!

The downfall

Went to the movies to watch “Der Untergang” (The Downfall), a historic drama about Hitler’s last days in Berlin. I’ve been reading some comments about a lacking message of the movie. I am not sure about that. Maybe the feeling that I felt afterwards is a strong message, I felt disgusted and uneasy. And in a way it made me thankful that I did not have to grow up during war times or experience war first hand. The movie depicted on an interesting fact, a human side of Hitler, being affectionate to his dog and the girls while on the other hand portraying him as a mad-man who is out of his mind and has lost touch with reality. It was disturbing to see people still obeying his commands or commiting suicide at the end because they had nothing to believe in in their opinion. The final remarks of Traudl Jung - the story is being told through her eyes - where she compared her actions with the actions of Sophie Scholz summed it up quite well: there is no excuse being young.

“infinite possibilities and all we can do is whine”

Just finished watching the final episode of Six Feet Under, season 4. And wow, it really ended with a bang. Good, that they finally resolved some loose ends. I don’t think that season 4 was a disappointment, on the contrary, it had some really powerful episodes, e.g. 401 and 405.

SFU has truely acclaimed a place on my personal got-to-see tv show list.

Scary

As I was writing the last entry, I was listening to Coldplay’s album - “a rush of blood to the head”. I’ve just finished watching episode 1 from season 3 - and the end credits were from Coldplay, a rush of blood to the head. Quite scary. Anyhow, great beginning of the episode -the writers are truely evil and I still have some disbelief.

SFU - season 2

Just finished season two of Six Feet Under. I was really pleased with season two - great acting and some surprising and bold plot twists. The cast is really outstanding and it is good to have another tv show that does not portray a perfect life all the time. The last episode is my favorite one for season 2. Wow, what a cliffhanger. Good, that I don’t have to wait a couple of months and can watch the first episode of season three right away.

lalalalala - you suck!

Whoever decided to play those damn, brainless “happy tree friends” comics during commercial breaks of the vma suck. MTV, what happened to you? You are a music channel, you have tons of good videos in your archives, why don’t you play some of them and spare us with those lame simpsons-itchy-and-scratchy look-a-likes.

Other than that, Miama definitely rocked, the yacht entrances were cool, the stage looked great but I had the feeling that something was missing - maybe the big “scandale”. One downside: the “everyone go-vote” was sometimes just embarrassing. The intention might have been good but I think it was just not fitting…
